Home/About
Family- and veteran-owned. Two doctors, one team, practicing together in downtown Waynesville since 2012.
Our story
Dr. Serene Nagia and Dr. Andrew Sharman met during active-duty service in the U.S. Army. Both graduated dental school in 2012 — Dr. Nagia from the University of Detroit Mercy, Dr. Sharman from the University of Buffalo. After their service ended, they practiced along the East Coast for several years before relocating to Western North Carolina.
They opened Balsam Dental in Waynesville in 2012 — named for the balsam trees of the surrounding mountains. The practice now serves patients across Haywood County and Western North Carolina, with the same two doctors who founded it.

Doctor 01
DDS · University of Detroit Mercy, 2012 · U.S. Army Veteran
Detroit-raised. Earned her dental degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 2012 and served as an active-duty dentist in the U.S. Army — where she met her husband, Dr. Andrew Sharman.
During her service she cared for soldiers and military working dogs alike, performing extractions, root canals, and the kind of hands-on procedures that sharpen a dentist quickly. She has practiced along the East Coast since.
Clinically, she practices the full breadth of general dentistry, with a particular focus on dental implants — single-tooth restorations, implant-retained dentures, and full-arch reconstruction. Her approach is unhurried by design.
